There are two main types of hydraulic rod seals: composite seals, and u-cup seals. Hydraulic rod seals prevent fluid from leaking out of the cylinder so as to maintain the fluid pressure necessary to facilitate the movement of the piston. The rod has a buffer seal that supports the rod seal and prevents leakage under pulsing spike-pressure during heavy-loading of the hydraulic cylinder.
