<Titanium Dioxide Alumina Coating>
Thermal sprayed alumina coatings with different amount of titania have different features and applications.
(1) Thermal sprayed alumina coating added with 2-4% titania has higher toughness of hard, abrasion and erosion resistance. These dense and smooth coating have applications requiring both wear resistance and toughness. Typical applications include textile and fabric manufacturing industry tooling, butterfly valves in hydraulic systems, electrical insulation or dielectric applications.
(2) Alumina coating added with 13% titania is denser, extremely wear- resistant and can be ground to excellent finish. These coatings generally have higher toughness and dielectric strength but lower hardness and relatively less resistance to chemical corrosion than alumina coatings with titania composition lower than 3%. Operating temperatures of this coating can be higher than 540 °C (1000 °F). Typical uses include hydraulic parts, plungers, automotive components, textile manufacturing components and tooling.
(3) Alumina coating consisting of 40% titania has moderate hardness and grindability, but the fracture toughness is higher than coatings produced from pure alumina, alumina-3%titania or alumina-13%titania. This coating is recommended for applications that require hard bearing surfaces, resistance to abrasion, fretting and particle erosion at operating temperatures up to 530 °C (1000 °F). For the features of low wettability, the coating is also suitable for applications in the chemical processing industry to resistant weak acidic environments. Typical uses of the coating includes chemical processing industry to resist weak acidic environments, tooling and textile manufacturing equipment and, pump parts, shaft sleeves and mechanical seals in many industries.
